Dear People Leaders,
I want to take a moment to acknowledge the profound devastation caused by the recent fires in Los Angeles. The magnitude of the damage has left many of us in shock and despair.
UC San Diego is committed to supporting colleagues affected by this tragedy. Resources available include medical care through UC San Diego Health and various programs to assist those impacted. Additionally, we are sharing tools and information on disaster preparedness should a similar event occur closer to home.

Resources for UC San Diego Staff
|
- Counseling Services Employees seeking support can schedule an appointment with counselors from the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) via Blink.
-
Personal accruals Employees who are unable to work due to power outages and/or addressing matters related to the fires (staying with loved ones due to evacuation, air quality, power outages, etc.) should work with their People Leader to take time off and use their vacation or sick time as appropriate. As a People Leader, I strongly encourage your flexibility and support with requests you receive. It is important to stay safe during these times. Note: if any of your team members are members of the National Guard, given Governor Newsom’s deployment, they would be eligible for Military Leave.
- Catastrophic Leave Donation Program Career employees impacted by the fires, including those who have suffered major property damage or displacement and have depleted their vacation time, may be eligible for support through the Catastrophic Leave Donation Program.

- Vacation Donation Employees have the option to contribute their vacation hours to the Catastrophic Leave Donation Program, providing assistance to UC staff in need. Donated hours are added to a shared pool that helps sustain the pay and benefits of eligible coworkers. Learn more including how to contribute on Blink.
- Community Support A comprehensive list of ways San Diegans can assist those affected in Los Angeles can be found here.

My thoughts are with everyone impacted by this catastrophe. Let’s continue to extend compassion and grace to one another during this incredibly difficult time.
Sincerely,
Terri
