GW Culture Buffs: Tudor Place Historic House and Garden

Location

Online

Event Description

Join us for an exclusive GW Culture Buffs event featuring a talk by Bryn Cooley, CCAS MA '18, 2214038068.pngcollections manager at the Tudor Place Historic House and Garden. Bryn will discuss the story of the Peter family, the estate's close ties to the legacy of America's First Family and the objects that tell the story of this National Historic Landmark.

A model of Federal-period architecture in the nation’s capital, Tudor Place was home to six generations of Martha Washington’s descendants from 1805 to 1983 and the enslaved workers and servants who lived and worked here. With over 18,000 decorative objects, including the largest Washington Collection outside of Mount Vernon, Tudor Place sits on 5 ½ acres in the heart of Georgetown. The estate became one of the nation’s first National Historic Landmarks in 1960 and opened its doors to the public in 1988.

The talk, followed by a Q+A session, will leave you with much more knowledge and appreciation of the estate's robust history and decorative objects.

This event is free and open to everyone in the GW community. Please register your attendance in advance.
