Additional Speaker InformationBART HERBISON - A Paris, Tenn., native, Bart Herbison worked as a reporter and spent 14 years in radio and as a correspondent for The Nashville Banner newspaper before joining the administration of former Tennessee Governor Ned McWherter as Deputy Director of Communications in 1987. Herbison joined the staff of U.S. Rep. Bob Clement (D-Nashville) in 1988 where he served as the Tennessee Congressman's Press Secretary, Campaign Manager and Chief Tennessee Administrative Officer before leaving Capitol Hill for Music Row in 1997. Herbison is Executive Director of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), the world's largest not-for-profit songwriters trade organization and advocacy group dedicated to the songwriting profession. Established in 1967, NSAI’s membership of nearly 5,000 spans the United States and many other countries. With more than 100 chapters, the association serves aspiring and professional songwriters in all genres of music. They also own The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee. Under Herbison's leadership NSAI gained prominence in the national legislative arena. His accomplishments include adoption of the “Music Modernization Act” in 2018 (the most important copyright law reform for songwriters in decades), the creation of The Mechanical Licensing Collective, and leading NSAI involvement in the 2016 Copyright Royalty Board trial that led to a historic 44% mechanical royalty increase for American songwriters. MARK MORALES is a Vice President of SBA Lending at City National Bank. Mark has over 20 years of business banking experience and specializes in SBA financing and loan programs for diverse owned businesses. Mark is the SBA Los Angeles District Office - 2016 Financial Services Champion of the Year and the California Department of Insurance - 2018 Insurance Diversity Trailblazer. Mark is also Co-owner of Charles Jacobsen, Inc., an importer of antique furniture and accessories from Asia, which is a Certified LGBT Business Enterprise. Mark currently serves the community as follows: Chair of the California Department of Insurance, Diversity Task Force; Small Business Employer Advisory Committee (SBEAC) for the State of California Employment Development Department (EDD); LGBT and Small Business Advocate to Southern California Edison’s Consumer Advisory Panel; Leadership Council of the Los Angeles Business Council; Advisory Taskforce on the City of Los Angeles Regional Solicitation Portal; President Emeritus of the Los Angeles LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce; and Board of Advisors – Equality California. BRAD PETERSON has been in music and entertainment related banking for almost 25 years, and is currently Senior Vice President of Music & Entertainment for Regions Bank in Nashville. He has a particular concentration in music publishing and royalty lending, along with various banking representation for songwriters, artists, business management firms, record labels, live events, media companies, and other businesses that contribute into the music industry. Member and sponsor of the Nashville chapter of the Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP), has been involved with the Music Business Pipeline Project at Belmont University, the Entertainment Business program at SAE Institute in Nashville, the Nashville Film Festival, and is a board member of the Nashville Filmmakers Guild. Brad is also a member of the Leadership Music class of 2016. Originally from the Midwest, he is a graduate of Washington & Lee University in Virginia, and has lived in Nashville for 25 years. Brad has a 21-year old son, Brady, and enjoys all things entertainment, family, cars, travel and football. STEVEN WHITE - Steve.White@Janoverllc.com / www.janoverllc.com - For more than 35 years, Steven White has provided royalty compliance and business management services as well as general accounting and tax services for clients primarily in entertainment, the arts and sports. In addition, Steve consults with clients and their attorneys on valuing intellectual property and on contractual provisions for royalties and profit participation. His practice also involves litigation support, and he has been retained as an expert witness in connection with royalty disputes. Steve’s past and current clients include many well-known and influential names including: Aerosmith, The Beatles, Bleecker Street Media, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa), Givenchy, Jack Nicholas, Laura Nyro, Arnold Palmer, Phish, John Sebastian & The Lovin’ Spoonful, and Tiger Woods. He has served on the Entertainment & Sports Committee of the New York State Society of CPAs since 1988 and was Committee Chairman from 1997-1998. He has led panels at the annual NYSSCPA conference as well as for the New York Bar Association and the Association of Independent Music Publishers. Currently, Steve is Treasurer of the New York Chapter of the Association of Independent Music Publishers. |
