THE POSITION

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Environmental Protection, has an immediate need to staff an Environmental Community Relations Specialist. If you enjoy being active in your community and have strong communication and public speaking skills, apply today for this opportunity!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be the primary contact for two regional offices with respect to the implementation of the department's environmental justice policies and initiatives. You will be a part of the regional management team and is an integral part of the professional work that is necessary in the issuing of permits including interfacing with affected communities, the regulated industry, and program staff.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:300 pm, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework), part-time up to 3 days per week.  In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
 Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree with major course work in public relations, social services, political science, communications, environmental sciences, or a closely related field; and two years of experience in public relations work or community organizations work; Or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
