Six people, including a small boy, were shot and wounded Friday evening in Northeast Washington when three armed men walked into a barber shop and opened fire, the police said.

The child was grazed on a hand, and none of the others’ wounds were thought to be life-threatening, the police said. They included four men and a woman who is related to the boy, according to police.

The gunfire broke out shortly after 6 p.m. at Snap’s barbershop in the 6200 block of Dix Street NE. No motive was immediately known, D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said in a briefing at the scene.

“It looks like the victims in this case were in the barbershop getting their hair cut or with someone who was getting their hair cut,” Newsham said.

After the shooting, the gunmen fled in a silver minivan, according to the police.

The chief said two victims went to a firehouse for help, apparently in nearby Prince George’s County.

“We had two walk-in shooting victims, one adult, one child,” said Jennifer Donelan, the spokeswoman for the Prince George’s fire and rescue service. The two arrived at a firehouse on Central Avenue, she said.

The 6200 block of Dix Street intersects Eastern Avenue NE, the border between the District and Prince George’s

Vito Maggiolo, a spokesman for the D.C. fire and EMS department, said D.C. EMS personnel took four shooting victims to hospitals.

One of the wounded men was in surgery Friday night and in critical but stable condition, police said.

In August, 2018 , one man was shot fatally and another critically wounded at the same barber shop, police said at the time. However, Newsham said, the barber shop has not been a place to which police are frequently sent.
