Dear Graduate Students:
Welcome! My office curates a list of funding opportunities, mostly external, as well as some employment opportunities, available to graduate students and/or recent graduates (to get you thinking long-term). This is not an exhaustive list, nor do listings necessarily equate with endorsements. Given current staffing levels, frequency will vary. During the off weeks, use the funding resources we use (see below) and past missives for upcoming deadlines. We provide this service as a first step in orienting your scholarly eyes toward available funding. New to the "funding thing"? Start here: https://grad.uic.edu/funding-awards/graduate-funding-overview/
Looking for on-campus jobs? Most assistantships are handled through departments. Only a small number of positions are posted HR's https://jobs.uic.edu/. (Current students who are UIC employees should click "Employee Login"; otherwise, the “External Applicant” or "External Career Site" is likely what you need.) We suggest opening the Jobs Board before clicking the links below. To access internal job board, click on the “Employee Login” button. Full-time UIC employees are ineligible for Grad College funding but may be eligible for external funding and employee tuition waivers that differ from assistantship waivers (cf. https://www.hr.uillinois.edu/benefits). Lesser-paid campus jobs may be posted to https://uic.joinhandshake.com. We do not control these portals and cannot help with access issues. For help with your materials, visit Career Services: https://careerservices.uic.edu/.
Please review each link to ascertain your eligibility before responding to us to request more information. Funding is rather varied, so start with the summary listings before delving into the further details for eligibility requirements and deadlines. You might use search functions (Ctrl F) if the list is overwhelming at first glance. International students: you are ineligible for a lot of funding, but don't despair! Note: UIC Global students are NOT eligible for UIC fellowships, awards, or tuition/fee waivers. (We repeat some "opps" when we think they are important and obtainable.)
Most opportunities listed are due within 1-3 months. Pro tip: Sensing that you're not yet eligible for these opps? File them in a spreadsheet for submissions when you are eligible. Funding might be available during your coursework; bigger opps are likely available when you're at the research and writing phase.

Our "fellowship toolbox" has many online resources, sample funding trajectories, and funding lists by discipline: https://grad.uic.edu/ fellowship-toolbox/. And we have built new webpages about going abroad and learning languages domestically! Cf. grad.uic.edu/go-abroad and grad.uic.edu/languages-us.
Sincerely,
