Educator Open House 2021

A FREE program for teachers with ID (Teacher Federation, Association ID, or employer). Pre-service teachers can show their Student Cards for free entry. Registration is required!

Proof of vaccination will be requested. As per provincial orders, all special event participants 12 and older will be required to provide proof of vaccination (ie. BC Vaccine Card). The BBM reserves the right to deny entry or participation to anyone who doesn’t comply with the museum’s stated policies, procedures and visitor code of conduct. Non-medical masks are required for all indoor public areas.

The Beaty Biodiversity Museum is a great place to take your class. Whether you teach elementary, secondary, or post-secondary, your lessons can be supported by our exhibits, activities, and programs. Learn about the onsite and digital opportunities available to your school at the museum, and the offerings we have for this year.

K-12 teachers and all other educators, including home-learning facilitators, librarians, early learning specialists, and post-secondary faculty, are welcome to attend this professional development day.


This year we are excited to be working with the BC Science Teachers Association offering virtual tours in conjunction with BCScTA’s Catalyst 2021 Conference.

Registration is required for both in-person and online events!

In-person:

In order to maintain a comfortable visiting experience, book a timed ticket with the timeslot when you will arrive at the museum. Drop-ins are not permitted!

Throughout the Museum
  • Explore the collections at your own pace
  • Meet our colleagues from LEEF (Lessons in Evolution and Ecology FUNdamentals). LEEF is a science outreach program run through Let’s Talk Science UBC that provides hands-on learning in ecology and evolution to local K-12 students through activities developed by trained UBC graduate students and postdocs! If you are interested in the program for your class, come chat with them and you can sign up to be connected with a grad student!
  • Meet our museum neighbors from the Pacific Museum of Earth (PME). Just across Main Mall, PME is Vancouver’s “Hidden Gem”, a museum filled with climate, geology, fossil, and mineral exhibits. Stop by their table to learn more, and join them for mini-tours leaving from the Beaty at regular intervals.

Can I bring my kids?
  • Yes, you can bring your children and a partner to the museum for free but the activities are created with teachers in mind.
How much does it cost?
  • Free for all educators – K-12 teachers, home-learning facilitators, librarians, early-learning specialists, and post-secondary faculty are welcome to attend this professional development day.
  • Those visiting in person, please bring an ID card (Teacher Federation, Association ID, or employer). Pre-service teachers can show their Student Cards for free entry. If you do not have a card, bring in a paystub or letter on letterhead from your employer or association for free entry. Pre-service teachers can show their Student Cards for free entry.
