Now Showing: ‘ROSE PLAYS JULIE’

“There is no doubt about the chillingly accumulated potency and force of this movie, or the quality of the performances. It is a really powerful film and Brady’s final dialogue scene exerts a lethal grip.” — Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

We invite you to watch the Irish thriller ROSE PLAYS JULIE, beginning Friday.

ROSE PLAYS JULIE (HIFF28)

Directed by Christine Molloy, Joe Lawlor
(2019, Ireland/United Kingdom, 100 minutes)
Available March 19-25, 2021 (from anywhere in the U.S.)

“It’s visceral and elegiac, a perfect slow-burner awash in the blood of old wounds reopened.” — Film Inquiry

Yearning to know more about her mysterious past, Irish veterinary student Rose (Ann Skelly) travels to London in the hopes of establishing contact with her biological mother Ellen (Orla Brady), a successful television actress. In the process, she unearths the shocking truth about the troubling nature of how she came into this world, setting her on a violent collision course that threatens to destroy her already fragile sense of her own identity.

With perfectly calibrated performances and exquisite direction from Joe Lawlor and Christine Molloy (MISTER JOHN, HIFF 2013), ROSE PLAYS JULIE is a nerve-racking, slow burn thriller that is as precise as it is unpredictable.

Followed by an exclusive Q&A with directors Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor and actress Orla Brady from the US premiere at HIFF28.
