NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced plans to contribute an additional $200,000 to the Alliance for Gun Responsibility to support Initiative 1639, which would strengthen state gun laws by raising the age to purchase semiautomatic rifles to 21 and enhance the background check system for semiautomatic rifle purchasers, among other provisions. In August, Everytown contributed $250,000 in support of I-1639. This additional donation will bring Everytown’s total contributions to I-1639 to more than $500,000, including direct and in-kind contributions.
STATEMENT FROM IAN TAYLOR, VOLUNTEER WITH THE WASHINGTON CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“As a Washingtonian, I’m proud of my state’s strong track record of passing common-sense gun laws to keep our communities safe. Initiative 1639 presents another opportunity to do even more to protect Washington families. I encourage all Washingtonians to vote “yes” on I-1639 on November 6.”
STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:
“Washington voters have a long history of standing up to the gun lobby and passing groundbreaking initiatives to promote gun safety — and Everytown and our grassroots army of local volunteers have been there every step of the way. Everytown is proud to once again stand alongside voters and advocates in supporting I-1639, a comprehensive effort that will keep Washingtonians of all ages safe from gun violence.”
