IUP women’s basketball earns at-large bid to 2024 NCAA DII Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUP women's basketball team earned the No. 6 seed in the Atlantic Region, part of the 64-team field for the 2024 NCAA Division II Championship announced Sunday night.
 
This marks the 16th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2022. It also marks the first NCAA Tournament for second-year head coach Craig Carey, who guided the Hawks to a 21-7 mark.
 
Gannon (32-2) was named the top seed in the region following its PSAC Championship victory on Sunday. The Golden Knights were named a host site, along with No. 2 seed Fairmont State.
 
The opening round of the NCAA DII Tournament is set for Friday, March 15. The semifinals take place the next day on Saturday, March 16 ahead of the regional championship on Monday, March 18.
 
IUP opens the NCAA Tournament against No. 3 seed Fayetteville State on Friday, March 15 at Fairmont State. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.  
 
Other first round matchups include Gannon/West Virginia State and Lock Haven/California (Pa.) in Erie.
 
Fairmont State hosts No. 7 West Chester on March 15 at 5:00 p.m.
 
The Crimson Hawks won regional titles in 2018 and 2019, also earning the No. 1 seed in the 2020 tournament. This season, IUP awaited its tournament fate after a 57-54 setback to California (Pa.) on March 6 in the PSAC Quarterfinals.
