Nine people were hurt and one person was killed in a spate of violent incidents across Charlotte on Saturday. In one case, police said six people were shot in the same parking lot.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say someone called 911 just before 9 p.m. to report a shooting in the 4900 block of Albemarle Road on the city's east side. When officers got to the scene, near Albemarle's intersection with Pierson Drive, they saw a "crowd of people" leaving and found evidence of a shooting in a parking lot.

Soon, six people with gunshot wounds showed up at two different Charlotte hospitals. CMPD says one of the victims was in serious but stable condition and the other five had injuries described as not life-threatening.

Police say "a social gathering" was taking place in the parking lot and that shots rang out after a dispute between several people there. None of the businesses that use the parking lot off Albemarle were open at the time of the shooting.

Police hadn't released any additional information about what led to the shooting as of early Sunday afternoon.

Just minutes after that shooting, at 9:03 p.m., someone called 911 to report a shooting in in the 4500 block of Hovis Road in northwest Charlotte. The victim, 29-year-old Demario Tillman, had already been taken to a hospital by the time first responders got to the scene. Tillman died at the hospital.

Police say Tillman was shot during an argument with 27-year-old Darryana Hearn, who has since been charged with murder in the case.

Tillman's death is the 37th homicide reported in Charlotte this year. In 2019, there were 107 homicides reported.

There were three other violent incidents reported in just a few hours Saturday night. According to WBTV, a man was shot in the 2100 block of Newland Road in northwest Charlotte, a man was shot in the 9600 block of North Tryon Street in the University City area, and a man was stabbed in in the 800 block of Glasgow Road in west Charlotte. All three people were expected to survive.

CMPD is asking anyone with information on the cases to call 704-432-8477.
