Resources

We strive to connect you to resources that will support you and your family while your student is attending UMKC.

Parents and Family Resources

Parents and families are an important part of the New Student Orientation experience! We encourage students to bring up to two guests with them to New Student Orientation. Guests can be parents, extended family members, mentors, friends, and/or anyone else who is helping the student in their UMKC journey.

Join Parent and Family Programs for monthly information sessions from various campus offices and departments. All sessions will be on Zoom and occur at various times throughout the day. Can't make it? Each session will be recorded and available for viewing for 45 days after the session.

All students new to UMKC are required to meet with an academic advisor before registering for classes. Depending on major, your student may be required to meet with an academic advisor before registering each semester. New first-time college/freshmen are required to go to New Student Orientation, and will register for classes before and/or during their Orientation session. New transfer students are strongly encouraged to attend Orientation and will register for classes before and/or during their Orientation session.

New Student Orientation is an exciting day packed with activities to prepare new Roos for success at UMKC. They will make connections with other students, learn about campus resources and services, navigate campus and explore student organizations.
