Submissions
Kolob Canyon Review accepts submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, visual art, and multimodal forms from SUU students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Please pay attention to the submission guidelines, as we may dismiss an entry for not following them.

Requirements
General Guides
As a student-run publication, we value fairness in our selection process and wish for as much anonymity as possible. Our submissions are read blindly. However, because we are SUU students publishing exclusively SUU content, staff members might recognize others' work and are permitted to submit a limited number of their own pieces.
Students, faculty, staff, and alumni may submit up to five (5) individual pieces per category. Current KCR staff members are allowed three (3) entries in poetry and visual art and two (2) entries for each prose category.
Your name should not appear anywhere on your piece in any capacity. If your name is present in the document, on the piece itself, or in its title, your piece will not be considered. However, we request that a bio be added to your submission through the comment feature in Submission Manager, which will be kept blind until your piece is accepted or declined.
Offensive work will not be tolerated.
Prose
We accept CNF and fiction pieces up to 3,500 words. We allow a small amount of breathing room if your piece happens to go over, but anything too much longer will not be considered for publication. All text should be in 12 pt. Times New Roman font and double-spaced, including the title. Additionally, the title should be centered at the top of your document. Please provide page numbers in the top corner of your submission.
Poetry
Due to the experimental nature of poetry, if your poem breaks from standard submission guidelines, that is acceptable. Poems should not exceed two pages. We print accepted pieces exactly as they are typed in the document. Please keep in mind, however, that our editions are smaller than a standard sheet of paper, so note the space your poem takes up before submitting.
Visual Art
Each piece must be submitted individually and as a .jpg, .png, or .pdf. Please no other file types, as some cannot be opened by us. If you are submitting a comic, please limit it to five (5) pages combined into a single document to be considered as
a single submission.
Important Details
Our Rights and Yours
We request first publication rights and only accept previously unpublished work. Upon publication, rights will return back to you. If the piece is published again elsewhere, please credit us as the initial publisher (and feel free to let us know so we can congratulate you).
In publishing with us, you consent to basic editing such as spelling and minor grammar. Staff members may reach out to discuss larger changes. Depending on negotiations, if you do not wish to make changes, your piece may be declined.
Your piece or selections from it may be used for marketing and advertising purposes, and we may reach out to you regarding recording your piece, interview content, and special events, among other items.
Response Time
You will receive a response from the editor-in-chief within four or five months. This is generally around the end of the fall semester.
Compensation
Unfortunately, because we're an undergraduate magazine, we cannot offer monetary compensation. You will receive one (1) free copy of the edition at the launch party, typically hosted in April. If you are unable to attend, we will make arrangements for you to receive your copy.
Frequent Questions
Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but please make sure to withdraw your piece if it is accepted elsewhere.
We'll still celebrate your publication, even if it isn't with us!
English translations of published work are not permitted.
Excerpts are not permitted.
Multimodal
This new category focuses on visual storytelling, video art, audio, and blended pieces. Combinations of poetry and art, slam poetry, and other types of work are accepted in this category. For anything auditory or visual, please submit a transcript and an accessible, unlisted link in a Word document. Submissions should be no longer than 10 minutes long. Note that we are a staff of graphic design and English students, so please consider if we’re qualified to judge a piece before you submit it.
