DICK'S Celebrates Achievements in GMC Boys Volleyball

DICK'S Sporting Goods honors the outstanding accomplishments found in Greater Miami Conference volleyball.  Specifically, the achievements of Lakota East's Carson Hill who, in a vote of conference coaches, was selected as the GMC "Player of the Year". After leading the conference in assists by a wide margin, this two-time first team all-conference performer received the ultimate honor of being named as the best of the best.

After an undefeated (8-0) GMC championship season, Lakota East Head Coach, Bryant Kuhlman was selected by his coaching peers as the GMC "Coach of the Year".  This was East's first GMC Boys Volleyball title since the spring of 2019. Under Coach Kuhlman's leadership, the Thunderhawks not only "ran the Table" in conference play but also registered an admirable 20-4 regular season record.

Track and Field Records Fall in GMC Championships

The Greater Miami Conference Track and Field Championships set the stage for some Ohio's best athletic performances.  As five existing records fell by the wayside, the 2024 GMC Championships certainly did not disappoint. Boasting some of the top athletes in the state, the old adage that records were made to be broken is commonplace in the league meet.

In the field events, Aleeyah Betts from Princeton, set a new discus standard with a throw of 132'4". This outdistanced the previous record of 130'8" by Mason's Amaya King.

In the 100 meter dash, Summer Swartout from Colerain, turned in a time of 12.04 in the prelims to best the existing mark of 12.11 set by Lakota East's Autumn Heath.

In the 4x100 meter relay,  the Mason team of Nora Moore, Emillia Capiello, Eden Orr, and Abby Love set a new of mark of 47.46 in the prelims which bested the previous record of 47.49 held by Lakota East.

The Mason 4x200 meter relay team comprised of Nora Moore, Abby Love, Tori Killens, and Azarae Hawkins turned in a time of 1:39.32, besting Lakota East's previous record of 1:41.04.

Mason's 4x800 meter relay team of Carlie Condit, Efa Paschka, Atalia Hawkins, and Addison Stephens posted a record setting time of 9:18.68, erasing the previous Mason Comet mark of 9:28.13.

In a night of champions, these GMC female athletes have continued to set the bar high for all those who follow.  Congratulations on these record setting performances.  Your hard work is appreciated.

DICK'S Sporting Goods takes great pride in honoring the accomplishments made in this year's GMC Track and Field Championships. In a first class event, hosted by Mason High School, 10 conference schools gathered to compete for individual and team honors.

With near perfect conditions, the track was fast, especially for West's Joel Nimoh, who turned in a spectacular performance winning the 100 meters (11.10), the 200 meters (22.07), as well being on two winning relay teams...4x200 meters (1:28.97) and the 4x100 meters (43.10).  These accomplishments earned him the title as "GMC Runner of the Year".

Braxton Moore took the league title in the long jump with a leap of 21'10 1/4" and then followed that achievement up with a second place finish in the high jump with 6'2". His fellow "field Comet" Temi Adesanya, nailed down first place in the discus with a toss of 160'11" and then backed up that victory with a second place in the shot put on the strength of a 48'11 1/2" effort.
