RESNET COVID Emergency Protocols End on June 11, 2023
Beginning on March 2020, RESNET adopted emergency protocols in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the protocols was to allow the HERS® industry to meet the demand for HERS® Index ratings as safely as possible. The emergency protocols are set to expire thirty (30) days after the Presidential Proclamation on Declaring a National Emergency Concerning the Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Outbreak is lifted.
On January 30, 2023, President Joe Biden announced that the national COVID emergency would be lifted on May 11, 2023. This means that the emergency protocols adopted by RESNET will expire on June 11, 2023.
The only exception to this is the provision for remote quality assurance reviews which was incorporated into the RESNET standards. This will require a formal standard amendment to change.
RESNET will be undertaking a review of the emergency protocols to determine which, if any, of the provisions make sense and should be incorporated into the regular RESNET policies and procedures. The RESNET Emerging Leadership Council has been tasked to develop a proposed standard amendment to be submitted to the RESNET standard amendment public review and comment process.
