Help Set Priorities for Atlantic County’s Services for Older Adults
Atlantic County residents who are 60-years of age or older are invited to participate in a brief anonymous online needs assessment survey designed to assist the Atlantic County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) in setting funding priorities for the years 2022-2024.  The AAA supports a wide variety of community-based services and programs offered by provider organizations, designed to assist county older adults to age in place and to maintain their quality of life.

The survey, conducted by the Stockton Center on Successful Aging and the Stockton Polling Institute in the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy will be available at the following link.  Residents who already responded to the telephone poll should not take the survey.  Please CLICK HERE to connect to the survey. For Spanish, select Espanola in the pull-down menu at top right.

For decades, he bottled up his trauma. Then he realized: He could transform his pain into purpose. His memoir relays the true story of the harrowing violence and dehumanization Max endured. It relays Max’s powerful lifetime commitment to actively thwarting hate and galvanizing resilience. Max insists you, too, can transform your adversity into your greatest strength. On the eve of WWII, as conditions in Europe deteriorated and countries closed their borders to refugees, Jewish organizations persuaded the British government to allow 10,000 children to enter the United Kingdom as temporary residents. During this webinar, Yad Vashem educator Liz Elsby will provide background information about the Kindertransport. 6/24/2021 12:30-1:30pm (note time change for this month only)
We write during crisis and disasters for many reasons. To occupy our minds, to cope with our feelings. And, I would suggest, to record what it is like to live through such an experience. As a social historian, I have done a lot of oral history, or remembered history. Interviewing people about their lives, about specific events or places. And writing about that, always with the sense of urgency – a need to capture the lived experience before those voices are gone.

Stockton Gerontology Club Present Care Packages for Residents at Pleasantville High Rise
With the collaboration of SCCESL, SCOSA and Residential Housing Association (RHA), the Gerontology Club of Stockton University was able to put together a craft care package for older adults at the Pleasantville High Rise. The packages consist of a mini clay pot, paint, a paintbrush and a seed pod for the residents to plant after painting the clay pot. The collaboration successfully put together 60 craft care packages (see below) with the help of Amanda Maurer (Treasurer of RHA), Taylor Ketcham (President of RHA), Ashley Berenato (President of the Gerontology Club of Stockton University), Lauryn Flynn (Vice President of the Gerontology Club of Stockton University), Summer Forte (Treasurer of the Gerontology Club of Stockton University) and Rileigh Mason (Secretary of the Gerontology Club of Stockton University).  The project, a collaboration between SCCESL, SCOSA, and the student Gerontology Club, was created by Trish Collins, community engagement liaison for SCCESL and SCOSA, and Christine Gayda-Chelder, faculty advisor of the Gerontology Club and SCOSA Service Coordinator.  Trish Collins will deliver the packages the week of May 24.
