SUNY New Paltz Earns 172 Selections to 2020-21 SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll

Syracuse, NY -- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced the 2020-21 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll Monday, which recognized student-athletes across the conference who sustained at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA). 

There were more than 1,700 student-athletes honored, including 172 student-athletes from SUNY New Paltz. In 2019-20, the Hawks landed 153 student-athletes in an unprecedented term where students were sent home midway through the spring semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic. SUNY New Paltz had 36 freshmen named to the list in 2020-21, nearing their total of 40 from last year. Men's and women's soccer had the most total selections with 20 each. 

The Hawks boasted 43 student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA this spring, 12 more than last spring. Softball, field hockey, women's volleyball and men's soccer had the most student-athletes earn a 4.0 with five, followed by baseball, women's lacrosse and women's soccer with four, then women's basketball and women's tennis followed with three, men's and women's cross country had two apiece and one each from equestrian, men's lacrosse and men's volleyball. Additionally, SUNY New Paltz had 218 student-athletes, nearly 67 percent of its total of student-athletes, make Dean's List in the fall, which improved to nearly 70 percent this past 2021 spring semester. The Hawks had 83 percent of student-athletes (262 total) earn a 3.0 or higher in the spring and nearly 62 percent receive a 3.50 or higher (193 total) this past semester.
