Dear Iona community,
Beginning on June 22, 2026, users will sign in to the new MyIona Portal using their existing Iona username and password. During your first login, you will be asked to accept the Iona Acceptable Use Policy and enroll in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
As a current user, what should I expect?
When you log into the MyIona QuickLaunch portal for the first time, you will:

- Use your existing Iona credentials.
Important: Do not click on the "First Time User" button. Instead, just use your existing Iona credentials.
- Review and accept the Iona Acceptable Use Policy.
- Register at least two Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) methods out of three available.

Gain access to University applications through a centralized portal.

MFA Option 1: SMS Text
SMS text uses a one-time code delivered by text message as an additional layer of account security.
SMS text provides the following benefits:

- Quick Verification – Security codes are delivered directly to your mobile device.
- Additional Account Protection – Adds a second layer of security beyond your username and password.

Familiar and Easy to Use – Receive a code by text message and enter it to verify your identity.

MFA Option 2: Microsoft or Google Authenticator
Microsoft Authenticator provides stronger security and quick access to verification codes whenever you need them.
The Microsoft or Google Authenticator app provides the following benefits:

- Always Available – Generate verification codes directly from the app, even when cellular service is limited.
- Reliable Access – Avoid delays or delivery issues that can sometimes occur with SMS verification codes.
- Great Backup Option – Serves as an additional authentication method if another MFA option is unavailable.

MFA Option 3: Passkeys
Passkeys are a modern authentication technology that offers significant advantages over traditional passwords and verification codes:

More secure - Passkeys are resistant to phishing attacks and credential theft.
- Works across devices – Save your passkey to your mobile device to access it anywhere.
- Easier to use - Sign in with a fingerprint, facial recognition, or device PIN instead of entering codes.

Faster authentication - No need to wait for text messages or manually enter verification codes.

To register a passkey, you'll need:

A supported device with biometric authentication or a device PIN configured.
- An updated web browser (recommended: Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox).
- Face ID or facial recognition on your mobile device.
- Touch ID or fingerprint authentication on your mobile device.
- Device PIN or passcode.
- Bluetooth enabled.

We recommend choosing options 2 and 3 for the most secure Multi-Factor Authentication. This combination provides both strong security and convenient account recovery options.

Additional Benefits
The new portal provides convenient self-service options, including the ability to change your password and manage your multi-factor authentication (MFA) settings right from the MyIona Portal. The system also offers Adaptive MFA, allowing you to trust a device for up to 30 days when logging in from same device and location, reducing the need for repeated verification. For added security, the system may require additional verification if you sign in from a new device, browser, or location.
