Actress Reese Witherspoon has funded almost $175,000 of projects for Nashville teachers.

Witherspoon, who was raised in Nashville, funded projects for Metro Nashville Public Schools teachers using DonorsChoose, a nonprofit that connects donors with project requests from public school teachers.

The school system put a call-out to teachers this week notifying them of Witherspoon's plan. According to a DonorsChoose spokesman, Witherspoon funded 142 projects.

Her donations will help more than 16,000 public school kids across 55 schools.

"She's very excited to support the teachers and students in Nashville, which holds a special place in her heart," the spokesman said.

Some teachers asked for funding for personal protective equipment, books for students and for a claymation project for students to tell their immigration stories.
