Stockton Plays to 6-6 Draw with Alvernia

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (2-0-1) played to a rare 6-6 draw with Alvernia University (2-2-1) on Wednesday afternoon. The game was calked after nine full innings due to darkness. John Perrino (Wall/Wall), Mike Costanzo (Williamstown/Williamstown) and freshman Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) led the 14-hit attack with three safeties each.

The Golden Wolves scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on a walk, an error and ground out for a 1-0 lead. The contest then turned into a pitching duel between Aaron Winsker (Baltimore, MD/Hereford) and Josh Kreider for the next four frames, until Stockton broke out.

In the home half of the fifth inning, the Ospreys exploded for four runs to take a 4-1 advantage. Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) picked up his first career hit on a double. Perrino followed with a single, before Tommy Talbot (Howell/Howell) knocked in Ford to tie the game at 1-1. After the runners advanced one base, Luke Fabrizzi (Old Bridge/St. John Vianney) plated both runners for the 4-1 margin.

After Alvernia sliced the margin in half with an inside-the-park-homer, Stockton answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Ford, singled, fellow Freshman Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) walked, then Perrino bunted for a hit. The ensuing error on the play allowed Ford and Elder to score for a commanding 6-1 lead.

It was short-lived as the Wolves knotted the game with four runs in their half of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6. Neither squad was able to mount any more offense and the game ended in the draw due to darkness.

Ford added two hits to the offense with Fabrizzi picking up two RBI in the game. Winsker tossed six strong innings allowing just three hits and one earned run. Jeremy Ruka (Cranford/Cranford) pitched the final two scoreless innings with one hit and one strikeout.

For Alvernia, Mike Ramundo and Thomas Faggioni had two hits each with Faggioni hitting the home run and driving in two RBI. Kreider pitched the first of six hurlers fort the Golden Wolves, scattered seven hits while striking out three.

Stockton will take on Castleton University in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12 pm in Galloway.
