Internship Opportunity: Supporting Agricultural Cooperatives in Central California 

A cooperative is a democratically controlled organizational model that actively involves people in addressing the issues they want to solve—such as to improve their economic, cultural, and social through a jointly-owned and democratically controlled enterprise. 

 

Internship Overview: 
CCCD is seeking undergraduate or recent graduates, who have a keen interest in food systems, agroecology, and cooperatives. CCCD offers an internship to a motivated intern to support our initiatives aimed at strengthening Hispanic agricultural cooperatives in the Central Coast of California. This role will involve assisting in the cooperative development (e.g. governance) of crop plans, creating effective marketing strategies, and fostering cooperative development. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Crop Planning: 
    • Assist in analyzing local agricultural data to develop effective crop plans in Central California. 
    • Interact with Hispanic farmers to understand their needs and provide recommendations, such as crop planning, soil conservation efforts, intercrops and agroecology practices.  
  2. Marketing Strategies:
    • Research and analyze market trends to develop marketing strategies for cooperative products. 
    • Help create promotional materials and campaigns to enhance visibility and sales. 
  3. Cooperative Development: 
    • Support training sessions and workshops for cooperative members on best practices. This includes translate didactic materials from English to Spanish
    • Assist in the evaluation of cooperative structures and propose improvements.  

Qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Agricultural and Environmental Education, Community and Regional Development, Entomology, Food Science, International Agricultural Development, Plant Science.  
  • Strong interest in cooperative development and sustainable agriculture. 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.  
  • Bilingual skill is really appreciated 
  • Proficient in SharePoint, Graphic design, CANVA and other skills with data analysis tools.
