GREENVILLE — The Post and Courier has hired a publisher and advertising director as it expands its Upstate operations and prepares to open a new office in downtown Greenville.

Kevin Smith will lead the company's advertising and business initiatives in Greenville and Spartanburg. Smith has spent most of his career in media sales. His recent roles include vice president of the Newspaper National Network, a consortium of 25 major media companies such as Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, and as a vice president of national sales with Active Interest Media.

"It's a true honor to be selected to help lead The Post and Courier’s expansion into the Upstate," Smith said. "I'm thrilled to join such a prestigious news brand during an exciting period of growth."

Smith started in mid-November. He can be reached at ksmith@postandcourier.com.

“Our team is thrilled to have Kevin join our expanding Greenville and Spartanburg newspaper operations," said P.J. Browning, president and publisher of The Post and Courier and CEO of parent company Evening Post Publishing. "Along with Kevin, we have added new reporting positions to better serve the Upstate.

"Our presence in Greenville and Spartanburg is vital to our continued commitment to provide local news to South Carolinians in the communities in which they live, work and play. We look forward to Kevin leading our efforts in the Upstate and building community partnerships in the region.”

The Greenville office has been located at 1 N. Main St. in the Endeavor co-working space since launching in 2020. It is moving to a permanent location at 20 Augusta St. in downtown Greenville in early 2023. The location was previously occupied by women's boutique Augusta Twenty, which relocated in November to a larger space at 26 Augusta St.
