Iowa farmer says Trump aid package won’t allow ag to flourish

A central Iowa farmer and member of Farmers for Free Trade says the aid package proposed by the Trump Administration does little to address his concerns.

Scott Henry of Nevada tells Brownfield bailouts won’t allow agriculture to flourish.

“We as farmers would like to see the focus be more on trying to find and create new markets rather than create restrictions on existing markets.”

He says Farmers for Free Trade has launched a campaign called Tariffs Hurt the Heartland in hopes of getting President Trump’s attention.

“These tariffs, they’re not just impacting farmers, but when you start looking at the steel tariff with Canada and Mexico, it’s impacting manufacturers as well.”

Henry, who voted for Trump in 2016, says if the trade strategy deployed by the President leads to better deals for the U.S., then maybe the short-term pain is worth it.  But, he’s concerned by what he calls the impulsiveness of the Administration that could stymie negotiations.
