Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
Housing & Residence Life would like to invite you to welcome our new and returning students to campus through our Helping Hands program that starts Wednesday, August 26. A student’s seamless transition to Grand Valley is made possible by over 400 hours of faculty and staff volunteer hours and over 2,000 hours of student volunteering! We would love for you to be part of this tradition of service to our community by being a Helping Hands volunteer.
Helping Hands volunteers have a variety of responsibilities that they can sign up for (not just hauling boxes, though that is important as well!). We also need help answering students' and their supporters’ questions, as well as providing directions and simply being a welcoming presence and resource.
For first-year students, research indicates that the first six weeks at college are critical to retention and a student’s sense of belonging; the first few days being the most important! We want to provide a positive experience for our students and their families and make them feel our support by having a strong faculty and staff presence during move-in.
Please sign up today for a range of days and times.
Thank you for considering this important opportunity in welcoming and helping the class of 2030!
