Appreciating Differences in a Changing World
A Unique Musical Experience to Strengthen CommUNITY
The word ‘community’ is a joining of two words – ‘common’ and ‘unity.’ How do we find our common unity during these changing times especially when we don’t agree? What capacities are needed to bring about a truly inclusive community, one that honors and calls forth the best in all of us? This interactive concert with conscious singer-songwriter and trainer, Bob Sima, will explore these and other powerful questions through music and discussion with the goals being to strengthen our community and increase and improve:
- Self-awareness,
- Interpersonal communication, and
- Appreciation of differences, even if you don’t agree
With so many things outside of our control, we know one thing…that we can only truly control ourselves. We can choose at any moment how we respond and engage with others and the world. That choice matters more than ever now.
Bob Sima (UMBC Class of '93, Psychology) is a dynamic singer-songwriter, performer, storyteller, speaker, workshop and retreat leader, meditation and breathwork facilitator, and creative collaborator — often weaving all of these elements into a single performance. He is a nationally touring artist performing not only at festivals, concert halls, yoga studios, and wellness centers, but also in schools, prisons, homeless shelters, hospitals, and mental health facilities. In all of these places, but especially in the places where the audience is so thirsty for a message of hope and light, Bob’s goal is to “soften the hardest of hearts, widen the narrowest of smiles, loosen the tightest of grips, lighten the heaviest of loads, and thin the thickest of walls of as many individuals as I can possibly reach. All for the greater purpose of lifting as much consciousness into this world at this time in human evolution when it is so called to be done.”
His performances draw upon influences from folk, kirtan, soul, and gospel as he navigates audiences deeply on a journey, both individually and as a collective. He guides his listeners into a space in which new possibilities – epiphanies, light bulb moments, shifts – can occur.
Bob’s music will be one of your power tools for self-awareness, expression, healing, discovery, and self-confidence. As these qualities begin to show up in you, they become more accessible in your exchanges with others, improving understanding, appreciation, and partnership.
