Alumni, parents, and friends of Whitman College are invited to hear Professor Emeritus Keith Farrington reflect on his time and career teaching on the Whitman campus. He will be accompanied by his wife, Nancy Tavelli, Associate Dean of Students for Campus Life. There will be time before and after the talk to socialize, and light refreshments will be served.
Three Seasons of a Man: Reflections on a Life Spent at Whitman College, 1977-2019
Professor Keith Farrington came to Whitman College in August of 1977, with his equally youthful spouse, Nancy Tavelli. They immediately moved into what was then known as New Dorm (now Douglas Hall), where Nancy began her career in Whitman's Office of Residence Life. The talk which Keith will deliver at this event will touch upon the several "seasons" of the life that he has spent at Whitman College, paying special attention to (a) the academic program into which he entered that fall, and the changes that he has seen in the program over time; (b) the nature of faculty and college life more generally which defined Whitman College then and now; (c) important social and and demographic changes which have taken place at Whitman through the years; (d) the Sociology (and other) courses which he taught during his 43 years as a faculty member at the college; and (e) at least a sampling of the many enjoyable personal experiences that he had both inside and outside the classroom during his very rewarding career -- personal experiences which will almost certainly resonate with many of the Whitman alumni in attendance. The remarks will be intended to be fairly brief, with ample time for Questions and Answers, and informal discussion more generally.
