Farah Mohamed Heading to Washington

Farah, who came to The Times in the fall as a floating editor, will be the bureau’s new deputy weekend editor. Read more in this note from Elisabeth Bumiller, Margaret Ho and Nathan Willis.

All,

We’re happy to announce that Farah Mohamed, an editor on the Express desk, will be joining the Washington bureau as our deputy weekend editor.

Farah came to The Times in November as part of a group of editors who pitch in on any desk that needs help. She has worked on a wide range of stories, including breaking news in Washington, photo features and daily briefings, and has helped staff Express on weekends and late nights. Most recently, Farah has brought her talents to Video, where she collaborated on dispatches from Mexico and Serbia, stories on attacks in Kenya and Syria, and quick hits on Brexit and the 2020 presidential candidates.

Before The Times, Farah was the managing editor at The WorldPost, a world news and opinion platform she helped start at HuffPost. She ran the homepage, built up a roster of worldwide contributors, commissioned and edited op-eds and features, worked with international editors to translate and adapt stories for a global audience, and led the transition of her team to its new home with The Washington Post. Prior to The WorldPost, Farah covered politics and local news for the Washington bureaus of McClatchy and HuffPost, as well as for The Washington Post’s Metro desk. Her time in Washington included pitching in on pieces about Obama’s second inauguration, the Boston Marathon bombings and the 2013 government shutdown.

Farah was born in London, grew up in Boston and has a degree in journalism with a double minor in international studies and Arabic from American University. Her capstone project at A.U. was “Something Worth Cooking For,” an exploration of the crossroads of food, culture and identity through the stories of Washington-area chefs and eaters.

Farah will work with Margaret Ho, our weekend editor on Saturday, and Nathan Willis, our weekend editor on Sunday. She’s excited to return to Washington, and starts March 1. Please welcome her!
