Tulane Pediatrics helping patients and families with holiday drive

The New Orleans Children's Health Project, a collaboration between the Children's Health Fund and the Section of Community Pediatrics and Immigrant Health in the Department of Tulane Pediatrics, will host a holiday drive on Sunday, December 18th, to benefit 125 patients and their families, who have had exceptional medical, economic and social hardship. Many of them are not eligible for health insurance or government assistance for food, housing, and other forms of support.

Led by Dr. Kimberly Mukerjee, Assistant Professor of Tulane Pediatrics, Miguel Alonso Solares, Case Manager, and Jeanne McKay, Senior Program Manager of Community Pediatrics and Immigrant Health, this event will need help in serving approximately 600 individuals with packaged food, diapers, hygiene supplies, a warm blanket, toys, books, and more.

There are several ways to help. You can donate, be a sponsor, or volunteer your time for the cause. Listed below are some dates to consider:

Friday, December 16:

2:30 – 5:30 pm – Packing bags of food and hygiene/snack baskets at the medical school downtown.  Volunteers are needed to help pack and sort these items.

Sunday, December 18:

11:00 am – Drivers needed to pick up baskets and care packages from the medical school downtown and transport them to the event venue in Metairie. If you can only drive but not stay for the event, that would still be very helpful. We needed approximately 15 cars last year to transport all items.

12:30–6 pm – volunteers needed to set up and staff the event. Each family will arrive and pass through the stations to collect items. We need 1-2 volunteers at each station, plus several additional people to help families carry their items to their cars.

Tulane School of Medicine's Staff Advocacy Inclusion Diversity Equity (SAIDE) is also gathering unwrapped toys to distribute to the families. SAIDE is accepting donations through December 16 in the Hutchinson Building lobby and room 8549, the Murphy Building lobby and in room 1511 and in Tidewater 802.
