Congressman Krishnamoorthi Calls for Investigation Of Scott Pruitt Over Report Of Pruitt’s Using EPA Resources to Attack Current and Former Aides

June 29, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to a report by the Daily Beast on Scott Pruitt's misuse of official resources to damage the reputations of current and former aides, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi called upon Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy to convene hearings on Scott Pruitt's potential misconduct.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi's signed letter is viewable here and the text follows below.

June 28, 2018

The Honorable Trey Gowdy

Chairman

Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

2157 Rayburn House Office Building

Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Chairman Gowdy:

Amid the ongoing backlash against Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt's many alleged ethics violations, reports have surfaced of additional professional misconduct. On June 28, the Daily Beast reported, "he's actively undermined the reputations of former and current staffers, with campaigns that former senior EPA officials have described as ‘ratf*cking'."[1]

When longtime aide Millan Hupp gave truthful evidence before a Congressional committee, as she was legally required to do, she was forced out of the EPA. Even after she left, reports state that Mr. Pruitt continued to damage her career by warning potential employers away from hiring her. Additionally, current and former staffers say Mr. Pruitt used official EPA employees to leak damaging information about former employees and "pitch ‘oppo hits' to media outlets on other officials who departed on bad terms."[2] One of these accusations is currently under investigation by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel.

I urge you to convene hearings to reveal the full extent of this Administration's use of official resources and executive power to defame and retaliate against whistleblowers and others who reveal ongoing ethics violations in the Trump Administration. Our committee has a responsibility to investigate this misuse power and ensure Congress exercise its oversight authority.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,

Raja Krishnamoorthi
Member of Congress
