UWM IT dedicated 2023 to supporting and bettering technology for the University.

But before we could achieve this, we had to check a few tasks off our to-do list:


Answer technology questions

We gave you the resources needed to get your technology questions answered.


Protect campus from cybercriminals

We did our best to share knowledge about job scams so you could spot them from a mile away.


  • 2,202,324 job scams were sent to students in 2023.
  • 1,916,879 or 87% were filtered out by our spam filters.
  • We dedicated October to Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
  • November was the month with the most job scams sent to UWM students- averaging more than 10,000 per day.
  • Gmail accounts are the most common email domain used by scammers to send phishing messages.

Support high quality technology hardware on our camupses

We supported general access & classroom technology to help you succeed.


Available hardware & space resources across all campuses:

  • More than 750 classrooms and meeting rooms.
  • 645 classroom & meeting room computers.
  • More than 1780 instructional and open access lab computers.

Total AV Equipment and Digital Signage supported across all campuses:

  • 498 Projectors
  • 262 Flat Panel Displays
  • 123 WordPress Digital Signs
  • 386 Network Managed AV Systems

Facilitate research

Research happened using UWM’s High Performance Computing (HPC) resources.


  • Conducted 26.6M core hours of HPC utilization that exceeded $1 million in value.
  • Received 192 submissions from users across 10 of UWM’s 14 Schools and Colleges.
  • Received submissions from 99 faculty led research groups.
  • Added 88 new users to UWM HPC resources.
  • UWM was gifted a $500,000 award from the National Science Foundation for Campus Cyberinfrastructure. This helped deliver comprehensive training in computation and work in cyberinfrastructure.

You showed us how work gets done at UWM.


There were 64,098,780 files saved in OneDrive.

UWM collaborated using:

  • 11,992 private Teams.
  • 716 public Teams.
  • 2,797,914 Teams chat messages from July 22, 2023 through January 19, 2024.

From September 23, 2023 through January 21, 2024 UWM had:

  • 29,696,517 inbound Outlook emails.
  • 2,150,556 outbound Outlook emails.

Bring new technology to campus

Our IT Project Management professionals brought their A-Game while managing projects for campus.


  • UWM IT participated in more than 30 IT projects and completed over 1000 tasks.
  • 15 of those projects were fully completed and another 11 are ongoing as of 2024.
  • 85% of 2023 IT project requests were successfully completed compared to the industry average of 50%.

Bolster resumes with LinkedIn Learning courses

LinkedIn Learning provided campus with courses that help you master technology, business and creative topics.
