Curling naturally curly hair may seem a little redundant, but it can actually be an easy way to achieve “I-actually-woke-up-like-this” curls. Read on to find out how to get the spirals of your dreams in just a few easy steps.

Step 1: Cleanse and condition.

Curly hair craves moisture and will look shinier and bouncier if it gets the hydration it needs. Opt for a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner formulated to smooth strands and reduce frizz.

Step 2: Calm those curls!

Prep your locks with a curl cream. Unlike a gel or mousse, curl cream will eliminate frizz and leave locks soft to the touch with no crunchy feeling. Depending on your hair length and density apply an ample amount of curl cream to damp tresses, then air-dry or use a diffuser to dry strands.

Step 3: Bump up your spirals.

Use a 1/2- or 1-inch curling iron to touch up any curls gone awry or any frizzy areas. Once you’ve touched up your strands, use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to gently separate your curls. To finish, apply a little more curl or styling cream to add definition.
