LCBCD names new executive director
The Louisiana Center for Bleeding and Clotting Disorders (LCBCD) announced Erin Kavanagh as its new executive director. Kavanagh has a long history of success working in human resources and office management in many industry sections, including energy, restaurants, elementary education, and nonprofit organizations.
Kavanagh replaces Jennifer Borrillo, MSW, LCSW, MBA, who started with the LCBCD in 2004 and rose to her role as executive director in 2016.
“Over the last five years, the Center has experienced a huge transition by doubling in size and adding a clinic location in Metairie,” said Kavanagh, who joined the LCBCD as senior section administrator in 2018. “The current transition in leadership is an extension of that change. I see this as an exciting time to look inward and focus on bringing our new team members and processes together to make us more effective for the ultimate benefit of our patients.”
Dr. Maissaa Janbain, MD, said she is confident that Kavanagh’s passion for the center’s mission, coupled with her extensive knowledge of its inner workings, will contribute significantly to the continued success and growth of the organization.
“Erin's longstanding dedication to our mission and her intimate knowledge of the center make her an exceptional leader,” said Dr. Janbain, who recently took over the role of the center director. “I am confident that the center will continue to thrive under Erin's guidance, providing vital support to individuals affected by bleeding and clotting disorders. Her passion, expertise, and commitment will undoubtedly propel us to new heights, and I am excited to witness her positive impact on our organization and the community we serve."
Borrillo, who accepted a role as Senior Vice President of Member and Community Relations for the Hemophilia Alliance, said she describes the transition the center is currently experiencing as an evolution, and there’s no better person equipped to lead this evolution than Kavanagh.
“From Erin, expect authenticity, honesty, humility, integrity, and consistency,” Borrillo said. “Erin is decisive, trustworthy, and determined. She is a leader who will communicate clearly, empower others, focus on relationship-building, and set clear expectations. She will lead by example and expect action. When one needs help, she will provide it with patience and encouragement. She will be dedicated to supporting Dr. Janbain in her role and the team so that the Center continues to excel in providing comprehensive care to the bleeding and clotting disorders community.”
Kavanagh said she envisions focusing on internal relationships and processes so the LCBCD team can improve efficiency and communication from within, thus benefiting patient care.
“Ultimately, I see my new role as a conductor bringing all our experts together to create one strong unit,” Kavanagh said. “We have an incredibly talented group of experts in each of the disciplines of our comprehensive care model. I am confident in their abilities and their compassion to provide the best care possible for our patients.”
Ashley Castello, executive director for the Louisiana Hemophilia Foundation, said she is excited about the opportunity to continue building the relationship between the LCBCD and the foundation.
“We have worked closely with Erin for several years in her previous role at the center, so we are excited to continue working with her in her new capacity,” Castello said. “We are confident she will be a great leader for the Tulane team. The relationship between LCBCD and LHF will continue to be a strong partnership of two organizations working side-by-side to carry out parallel missions of assisting and empowering the bleeding disorders community.”
Kavanaugh received her Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication from the University of South Alabama and her Master of Business Administration from Loyola University New Orleans in June 1996.
