Silver Linings and Holiday Cheer!

This has been a year of challenges and one that has required us to be more laser-focused than ever.

In December, we are launching a new series—the Stage Door Cabaret Series (SDCS). The audience will become part of the stage decor. What’s in store? Limited capacity, a stellar line-up of local and regional musical acts including a Grammy nominee, an opera and french chanson singer, Portsmouth gems, and so much more. This will all be done following safety protocols and CDC State guidelines.

The series kicks off on November 28 with internationally acclaimed singer and actress Ute Gfrerer. Called a musical shapeshifter and praised for her versatile voice, repertoire, and storytelling, Ute will lead us into the holiday season with many beloved songs and stories.

Taylor O’Donnell’s career has taken her far, including having performed in NYC on stages at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. She’ll be performing with her quartet on Saturday, December 5.

Singer-songwriter Celia Woodsmith and violin virtuoso Jason Anick front a newly minted supergroup with bassist Charles Clements. The trio will perform an array of roots-inspired originals, country classics, western swing, and bluegrass music as part of the SDCS. Woodsmith is a GRAMMY-nominated performer, vocalist, and songwriter best known for her work with Della Mae. Join us on Saturday, December 12 for what should be a thrilling evening!

The Treason Quartet makes their way to the SDCS on Thursday, December 17 by way of Stuart Dias, frontman for the New Orleans-inspired band Soggy Po’ Boys. In this intimate evening, you will be treated to a versatile combo of traditional swing jazz and everything from Irving Berlin, Hank Williams, Louis Armstrong, and Dolly Parton.

On Saturday, December 19 the Sharon Jones Quartet will perform a riff-driven high-energy R&B and Blues show. She’s been called aPortsmouth gem” for good reason!

One of Portland Magazine’s “Ten Most Intriguing People in Maine,” award-winning writer and performer Susan Poulin presents her alter ego, Ida LeClair, “the funniest woman in Maine.” It’s Nora Ephron meets the Tales from Lake Wobegon—join us on Sunday, December 20 for a hilarious afternoon of storytelling featuring local flavor in “A Very Ida Christmas.” This show is part of our ongoing comedy series.

These are just some of the many things on our calendar. Films and more spectacular announcements still to come. For a complete listing of dates and times, check out our calendar.

We hope to see you at the theater!
