Forbes has named Milwaukee and Kohler as top destinations to visit in 2020.

Milwaukee was included on a list of the 25 best places in the United States to visit next year. Madison-based journalist Mary Bergin (who has written for the Journal Sentinel) chose Milwaukee for the list, in part because the city is hosting the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The article also cited some of the city's water-based attractions, including kayaking and cruising on downtown rivers, walking along Bradford Beach, dining with waterfront views at Harbor House and enjoying festivals such as Summerfest along the lakefront.

Milwaukee has been making a lot of "best of" travel lists ahead of the DNC, including ones in the Wall Street Journal and Airbnb. The New York Times also visited the city for its 36-hours travel series.

Three other Midwestern spots made Forbes' U.S. list: Indiana, with the article making note of Indiana Dunes becoming the country's 61st national park in February; St. Louis, partially for its national park, Gateway Arch, which recently reopened after a $380 million renovation; and the Ozarks, "one of the fastest-growing vacation areas in the country," according to the article.

The 13th hole at Whistling Straits golf course, the home of the 2020 Ryder Cup golf tournament, on Sept. 19, 2019.

Kohler made Forbes Travel Guide's list of the top 20 destinations for 2020, an international list that includes destinations from Tokyo to Macau.

"You’ve likely never heard of this small town an hour north of Milwaukee," the article states of Kohler, going on to note that you will after the Ryder Cup tees off at the Kohler Co.-owned Whistling Straits in September 2020. The article also makes note of Kohler's other amenities, including Wisconsin's only AAA-rated five-star hotel and spa, The American Club and Kohler Waters Spa.
