Q: What was your first job, and was there a lesson you learned there that you still use today?

Technically my first job was here at the bank. Starting at age 16, I worked during summer as a receptionist and customer service rep. My first “real job” was as a line cook at a small restaurant in Charleston, S.C. The most important thing I learned from working in Charleston is that attention to detail is just critical, to make sure that the customer’s needs are met and ideally exceeded, and that customer service is really the key to success.

Q: What has been one favorite memory or experience so far?

The highlight of my career so far was serving as the president of Leadership GBA. I had the opportunity to meet so many new people, to foster relationships with those I had already met at banking school and roundtable meetings and to work closely with GBA staff.

Q: How has your involvement with GBA affected your career?

I mentioned when I spoke to our group at the GBA 125th anniversary events that I grew up hearing about GBA from my dad. He was a huge proponent of GBA and the value of having people like Joe Brannen and the GBA staff speaking up on the issues that matter to the banking industry. Stepping into his role, I got to see the importance of GBA for myself. I’ve grown tremendously as a person and with my banking knowledge from the roundtable groups, webinars and conferences I’ve attended. The networking opportunities to meet new people are invaluable. I met our current CFO Martha Brown and Chief Lending Officer Keith Anthony through GBA originally, and our bank is stronger for their involvement.

Q: What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I spent seven weeks backpacking through Europe by myself before I became a banker and would love the opportunity to do that again. I’m also a die-hard UGA fan, but if you’re on my Facebook page, you already know that!

Q: Where is your "happy place"?

Sitting on the beach listening to the waves.
