The Public Works Commission is the oversight body for the Department of Public Works. Created by Proposition B on the November 2020 ballot and modified by Proposition B on the November 2022 ballot, the Commission sets policy directives and is responsible for reviewing and evaluating department performance, holds hearings on the department's activities, approves contracts and annually hears and approves the department's budget plan. Commission meetings are also a forum for the public to hear about and comment on the department’s business. The Commission is made up of two appointees by the Board of Supervisors, two mayoral appointees and one appointee by the City Controller. The Mayor’s and Controller’s appointments are approved by the Board of Supervisors.
