Faculty Spotlight: Yini Wang, Ph.D.

Yini Wang joined the LMU Department of Accounting in fall 2023 as a visiting assistant professor and teaches the undergraduate business core course, “Financial Accounting.” Yini recently accepted a tenure-track position and will join the LMU accounting faculty full-time in fall 2024

Yini earned a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Miami. She worked for KPMG Shanghai as an auditor for two years. Yini’s unique background in both U.S. higher education and global public accounting adds value to LMU both in and out of the classroom.

“I am excited to join the diverse and vibrant community at LMU, where I can continue to conduct high-quality scholarly research and guide students in their careers,” said Yini. “I also look forward to exploring new research ideas with faculty in the accounting department and other disciplines.”

Yini's primary research interest is in the area of auditing, with a focus on cross-border audit regulation enforcement and international audit markets, such as how the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s access to inspect foreign auditors affects foreign issuers’ global listing decisions and audit quality.

Yini has enjoyed her first few months at LMU and was drawn to the university’s commitment to fostering an immersive learning environment. She says daily interactions with colleagues and students have resulted in the sharing of ideas and insights that nurture her research endeavors.

“Because I teach a business core class, I have the privilege of mentoring students from diverse backgrounds on their majors and career objectives,” said Yini. “I love to learn about their stories and aspirations, all of which contribute to fresh perspectives that enrich my academic work.”

In her spare time, Yini enjoys singing, playing the guitar, kickboxing, and exploring local breweries and wineries.
