Welcome to Pricing Nature, a limited-series podcast from the Yale Center for Business and the Environment, the Yale Carbon Charge, the Yale Tobin Center for Economic Policy, and the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition. Our podcast tells a story about the economics, policy options, politics, and history of carbon pricing, which many argue should play a critical role in any national climate policy. We feature conversations with carbon pricing experts from government, academia, and civil society.
Season One focused on carbon pricing theory. Season Two explores carbon pricing beyond cap-and-trade and carbon taxes. We cover creative ways of pricing carbon, from fees inside companies to markets for carbon offsets. We explore a new idea for payments to reduce carbon in the atmosphere. And we ask: what do we do when mitigation is not enough?
This season, we’ll speak with heroic local organizers, academic experts at Yale and beyond, YouTube royalty, one of the greatest living Sci-Fi authors, three commissioners of state-level climate policy, leaders at environmental nonprofits, and young advocates from around the world.

Maria Jiang is an MEM/MBA candidate at the Yale School of Management and Yale School of the Environment with an interest in driving clean energy solutions and the acceleration of carbon pricing. Maria has previously interned at the first U.S. carbon market, RGGI, researched agricultural offsets at the Environmental Defense Fund, and forecasted cap-and-trade purchase and trading behavior for California’s major IOUs and oil majors. She is a senior producer for Pricing Nature.
Jacob Miller is a recent graduate from Yale University, where he studied Applied Physics and was a member of the Energy Studies Multidisciplinary Academic Program. Jacob was the first intern with the Yale Carbon Charge, and was a member of the Carbon Charge’s Undergraduate Working Group. He is a senior producer and sound engineer for Pricing Nature.
Naomi Shimberg is a junior at Yale University majoring in Ethics, Politics, & Economics and Energy Studies. At Yale, she’s a research assistant in Yale’s Department of Economics. Naomi has previously worked at the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and Climate XChange. She is a senior producer for Pricing Nature.
Cami Ramey is an MEM candidate at the Yale School of the Environment specializing in climate change science and solutions. Cami is interested in supporting ambitious and equitable solutions to build climate resilience in vulnerable communities. She has previously worked with the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions researching federal climate resilience policy and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Environment Review. She is a producer for Pricing Nature.
Katie Sawicki has been writing music for her solo career, her band The Cabin Project, and various film projects since 2002. She has scored award-winning projects, most recently Sista in the Brotherhood, and The Cabin Project has been featured on ABC Family's The Fosters, among other shows. She writes original music for Pricing Nature. Katie moonlights as a consultant supporting racial justice policy, advocacy, and organizing work in Oregon.
