Forbes recently released its list for the top employers nationwide and a total of 34 Tennessee based companies made the list.

The top employer in Tennessee? Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee headquartered in Chattanooga.

Over 1,300 companies made the list, seven of which were Nashville entities. This doesn't come as a surprise, as Tennessee was named one of the best states for business just earlier this year.

The best place to work in Nashville according to Forbes is Vanderbilt University (No. 26). Trailing not far behind Vanderbilt is the State of Tennessee (No. 37), the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County (No. 45) and Bridgestone (No. 48).

Methodology

How did Forbes land with these specific companies? Together with the market research firm, Statista, Forbes surveyed a total of 70,000 full and part time employees nationwide, at companies with 500 or more employees.

Employees were then asked to evaluate their employer on criteria such as working conditions, diversity, compensation packages, potential for development and company image. They were also asked if they would recommend their job to family and friends.

All surveys were anonymous and companies paid no fees to participate.
