Sailing Singlehanded Championships

Anderson Wins ICSA Women’s Singlehanded Championships, Barclay & Lettsome Finish 2-3 in the Open

NEW ORLEANS – Freshman Ava Anderson led the way in a stella performance for Tulane University sailing in the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships on Lake Pontchartrain on Sunday. Anderson won the women's singlehanded championship while Hamilton Barclay and Thad Lettsome finished second and third in the open singlehanded championship.
 
By winning the final race of the women's singlehanded national championship on Sunday Anderson secured first place with 74 total points. The freshman recorded three first-place finishes across the 14 rotations in the regatta to finish three points ahead of second place. Also in the women's championship, fellow freshman Oakley Cunningham finished 15th overall with 170 total points.
 
In the open singlehanded national championship, the Green Wave duo of Barclay and Lettsome claimed spots on the podium by finishing second and third overall. Barclay, another Tulane freshman, recorded a pair of first place finishes in the 14-race regatta to score a total of 91 points and secure second place in the 18-sailor field. Lettsome followed right behind the freshman with 93 total points to land third overall.
 
The Green Wave will return to action in the spring with the season expected to begin in February.
