- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2016I've been critical of the last two TTB recordings. Live they are a tour de force, but when I get home or go out in the car, it's "Songlines" or "Already Free" that I reach for every time. Imagine the big grin when I played this latest CD then. Susan's singing is a little less strained and it is all the more appealing for all that. Many of these tracks could easily have been on "Already Free". The last track on the 2nd CD of the "Deluxe Edition" ("Keep on Growing") is flat out Dicky Betts / Jessica. Mike Mattison makes an oh-so welcome return to stage centre. There's just enough of that wonderful guitar to guild the performance without taking over the song. Excellent horns. Even if you have never encountered TTB, buy this CD and then make every effort to see them live. The songs are eclectic which was not so much the case on "Made Up Mind". Highly recommended then.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2017Incredible album that showcases the merit and versatility of a big band. You won't get bored listening to this one. Tedeschi's voice continues to evolve and refine, Trucks rocks, funks and soars, the brass section owns it, and the keyboardist's flute work is sublime. There are a couple of tracks on disc 1 that I usually skip but the rest are diamonds. Disc 2 is basically studio practice/experimental cuts of disc 1 songs, trending to less refined but still cool. The last cut is amazing, pure Allman Brothers but on steroids, with Susan fronting with delightful effect -- this song alone is worth the extra cost of the deluxe edition, but be aware the unique Fender amp packaging won't fit in typical CD storage. This album instantly became a favorite in my collection.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2016I absolutely LOVE this band. I recently saw them at the Bell Auditorium, in Augusta, GA, 4 rows from the stage, and the sound was absolutely AWESOME. This band is tight, and they take the ENTIRE band with them on tour. Of course, they play longer versions of the songs live, which is really cool. I can't wait to see them again. They played a lot of material from this album.
I think this album is a little slow, but there are some great hits on here, including the title track, "Let Me Get By", "Laugh About It", and "Anyhow". I hope this band can stay together and keep putting out such great soul/blues/jazz mixes, that are really from the heart.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2016I have intermittent hearing loss due to a birth defect, and it acted up in early January and lasted for over two months. I had been waiting for this album since it was first announced last year, and unfortunately I had to wait until my hearing returned before I could order it. It was well worth the wait. Every song on here is a gem, a true joy to hear and savor. With each album the TTB only grows better, crafting songs that stir the soul. They cover so many genres in their music that it's impossible to peg them as simply a "blues-rock" or "jam band". I've had this deluxe set for almost two months now and still find myself listening to it at least a few times a week.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2016TTB's most consistent album from start to finish. They get tighter every year, and this time the songwriting consistently stands up to the musicianship. Check out the title track, Anyhow, and the beautiful ballad In My Heart. Derek's slide/lead work shines without overpowering. What can you say about Susan's voice? Fine range and tone, switching effortlessly from sweet to edgy blues. Her vocal interplay with Mike Mattison is spot-on. She's a great guitarist, too, easily bridging rhythm and second lead. The horns, keys, and rhythm sections fill out the tight, clean big-band sound. The deluxe edition contains a few worth-it alternate mixes (again In My Heart is a standout) and a few live tracks from a Beacon Theatre gig. The cover of the Domino's Keep On Growing is killer.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2016This may take a few listens to appreciate fully. The first time I heard it was a little surprised, it just didn't sound like what I was expecting from my previous experiences with TTB on Everybody's Talking and a lot of stuff off youtube. But after about the third time through, wow! The complexities, the dynamic musicians, the incredible songwriting just suddenly came together and completely blew me away. Susan is as strong as ever, and Derek , while less dominant hear than you may be used to, still has a powerful presence in a more subtle style. If you are a TTB fan don't worry, you're going to love this.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2022Absolutely adore this album... Whether im decompressing from a bad day, jamming out while cleaning house or finding my motivation while getting ready for work, this album helps me out. It's a fantastic display of TTB's talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is far more than 'getting by'!
This is a fine example of a group that has matured and grown in its musicality. It sounds like the band has taken a purposeful change in direction, all for the better.
Derek's excellent guitar work is drawn back a bit to allow the vocals and other instrumentation to come to the fore. The result is a memorable album of tuneful selections.
What adjectives to describe this album? Delightful, harmonic, heartwarming, inspiring!

5.0 out of 5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Menuda sorpresa
