LifeX said these six companies are "undeniably driving life science innovation."

Startup development organization LifeX has announced the latest cohort of life sciences-focused companies that are serving in its fall accelerator program, which includes firms based in Pittsburgh and elsewhere around the world.

LifeX said these six companies are "undeniably driving life science innovation."

All six startups are set to receive various forms of curriculum on health care business operations over the next three months. Each startup also will be paired with a mentor and an intern to help these firms enhance their understanding of the life sciences industry at a local and global level.

Those based outside of Pittsburgh will become more engaged with the local biotech ecosystem, LifeX said, and are set to become more knowledgeable about what the region has to offer for business development in this sector. Many of these outside-of-Pittsburgh startups have previously interfaced with LifeX in some capacity, the organization said.

"Being able to follow up on these introductions from our community partners with participation in the virtual LifeX Accelerator program essentially creates an extended interview process for these companies to get to know the Pittsburgh innovation ecosystem and all of our regional assets," Kelly Collier, director of ecosystem development at LifeX, said in a statement.

These are the six startups that LifeX has selected for its fall 2023 accelerator cohort:

  • Houston-based Bairitone Health - a startup building a scalable sleep apnea diagnostic system that uses an at-home wearable device
  • Pittsburgh-based D.Sole - developers of a wearable device for diabetes patients that is designed to diagnose and evaluate peripheral neuropathy
  • Pittsburgh-based Elevate_ai Solutions - software-as-a-service developers looking to validate prescriptions by relying on machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP)
  • Ghent, Belgium-based Meep - makers of a rapid at-home diagnostic tool capable of quantifying nearly all biomarker classes
  • Boston-based Moss Health - builders of a health care patient management system designed for interventional psychiatry clinics
  • Philadelphia-based Sonura - creators of a beanie head covering for newborns who are placed in Neonatal Intensive Care Units that offers auditory protection and parental connection
