Pittsburgh-area tech companies look to fill open roles following closure of local robotics firms

The recent closures of Strip District-based autonomous vehicle startup Argo AI LLC and South Side-based vertical farming startup Fifth Season Inc. have resulted in the termination of an estimated 800 jobs in the region, many of which are roles likely occupied by highly-skilled workers.

But the desire for talent in the local tech scene remains strong.

According to Joel Reed, executive director of the Pittsburgh Robotics Network — a nonprofit member advocacy group, there are at least 1,000 open job opportunities in the region across PRN's 110 robotics member organizations.

"This is sobering news for many of our friends and community members, as Argo was an industry pioneer, they built an enviable culture, and the company was a committed civic leader," Reed said in an email statement to Pittsburgh Inno. "However, our region’s robotics ecosystem has grown so dynamically, the region is capable of absorbing corrections such as these. This is the hallmark of a strong ecosystem cluster."

Here's a roundup of some of the local employees looking for talent and the types of roles they're looking to fill.
