Reminder: VUMC ID badges: Required for on campus access and beneficial to safety

An important way to help ensure the safety of Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s workforce and patients is for every employee to clearly wear their Identification badge. VUMC ID badges are required on each of the health system’s campuses.

Identification badges let patients, visitors and coworkers know you are an employee and are permitted inside Medical Center facilities. Having a way to clearly identify an employee is important to reinforce safety and security in the event of an emergency.

The Dress Code Policy says that ID badges must be worn in plain sight above the waist with the employee’s name, title and picture clearly visible on the badge.

Staff at screening stations have been instructed to enforce the ID badge requirement, including not allowing entrance to employees who do not have their badge.

Employees of Vanderbilt University are also required to wear their VU-issued badge when working in VUMC’s buildings.

Other specific dress code policies including the Emergency Department and Operating Rooms can be viewed in Policy Tech along with the enterprise Dress Code and Personal Appearance Policy.

If you have questions about your area and identification badge requirements, please contact your department’s leadership and refer to Policy Tech to obtain copies of these documents.
