Each fall semester, professors Sean Derry and Sharon Massey, who collaborate as Local X Change, create a pop-up store called Common Goods to present the work of students enrolled in 3D Design and Digital Fabrication courses. The store features laser-cut paper packages of things we value but cannot purchase, such as empathy, rest or rainbows.

This year, Common Goods will pop up in the ticket booth at the Indiana Theater at 637 Philadelphia Street. The grand opening celebration will be held on Wednesday, November 8, and additional hours will be posted for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Paper Packages from Common Goods

Each student in the course creates an original package design and then uses Rhino 3D software to create a digital file. They laser-cut multiples using the tools in STEAMSHOP and present them at the Common Goods pop-up shop. The packages are for sale and the proceeds benefit the Future Makers Fund, a catalytic funding stream for students interested in creating and distributing original products.

Attending the grand opening celebration of Common Goods is a way to support IUP students who are engaging with the community and to experience a unique cultural event.
