A New Chapter in Our Shared Work

Hello Student Affairs Team,

As I plan for the months and years ahead, I’m glad to have you all as our “influencers!” After many months of collaboration, thinking and writing, I’d like to share how you can help us continue to influence the Longhorn life on campus.

Our five “strategic priorities” for the next five years were crafted with input from across our Division and campus partners. They were intentionally designed to directly support the university’s 10-year strategic plan, Change Starts Here.

This is just a brief intro. There’s much more to each strategic priority, including initiatives, committees, outcomes and action items. To dive deep into our Division’s strategic priorities, read our Influencing the Longhorn Life Resource Guide. This resource guide offers helpful information to assist with how departments can develop action items in line with the Division priorities and the university’s strategic plan. In our work ahead, directors and/or department designees will submit information on behalf of departments.

Influencing the Longhorn Life
Division of Student Affairs Strategic Priorities 2022-2027

1: Maximizing the Longhorn Experience

In the end, this is what all of us are trying to do every day — enhance the Longhorn experience for all students. We aspire to make sure every student has everything they need to thrive, to join communities of their own and to soak up everything that makes being a Longhorn unlike anything else.

2. Health and Wellness

Nothing is more fundamental than our students’ physical, mental and emotional health. We have a duty to help provide and protect their health so they can fully enjoy their college experience.

3. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Our goal is to foster a culture and environment that is diverse and inclusive to all members of the campus community. The more welcoming we are to each person, regardless of their identity or circumstances — the more fulfilling our work will become and the more we can accomplish. Over the coming years, we will seek out new and intentional ways of making our university a more welcoming community for everyone.

4. Talent Investment and Staff Support

We literally couldn’t do our work without you. That’s why we will be making major investments in attracting, retaining and developing the finest student affairs professionals in the world.

5. Technology and Resource Management

Technology is already a cornerstone of the Longhorn experience. And our campus facilities remain the foundation of our day-to-day work. Together, we will help the university manage technology and facility resources, keeping them useful, usable and equitably available to all.

I hope learning more about these priorities is getting you excited for what’s ahead!

Mark your calendars now for the Division of Student Affairs Holiday Gathering. It will take place on Dec. 7, 9 a.m.–Noon in the San Jacinto Residence Hall Multipurpose Room.

I can't believe the holiday season is on the horizon! I sincerely hope you get to enjoy this special time of year alongside the people you love most. Please be safe in your travels and enjoy the break before finals.

For Students, We Will!
