Saturday, May 9, shortly after 9:00 a.m., a Colorado State Trooper responded to a report of a person acting oddly in the area Hwy 50 and 29 Road.

The 911 caller said the person was standing in the same position for a couple of hours, not moving. A citizen approached and asked the person if they needed help; the person did not answer or acknowledge their presence.

The Trooper attempted to speak with the man. The suspect reportedly began to act aggressively and displayed a 10-inch knife. Investigators say that is when the shooting happened.

The man died, however, the Trooper was not hurt.

The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Jayson Thompson, from Bisbee, Arizona. According to the Mesa County Coroner, his cause of death is gunshot wounds of the torso. His death has been ruled a homicide. We're told toxicology reports are still pending.
