Mrs. Jimmie “Janie” Irene Schenck Surratt was called home to glory on Monday, July 20, 2020, in Asheboro, North Carolina.

Visitation will be held at George Washington Carver Community Enrichment Center, 950 MLK Dr., Asheboro, NC 27203 on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at 4:00 pm. (Due to the state regulations, please wear a mask prior to entering)

Visitation will be held at Ebony & White’s Funeral Services 1139 East Pine Street on Monday, July 27, 2020, at 9:00 am-10:30 am.  (Due to the state regulations, please wear a mask prior to entering)

A Grave Site Service will be held at Tuckers Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery 5982 Tuckers Grove Church Road, Iron Station, North Carolina, Monday, July 27, 2020, at 11:00 am-12noon with Reverend Albert O. Perkins, Sr. officiating. (Due to the state regulations, please wear a mask prior to entering)

Mrs. Jimmie Irene Schenck Surratt was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina on September 27, 1945, to the late James Wesley Schenck and Lillie Mae Foster Schenck. For seventy-four years, God watched over, nurtured, and sustained Jimmie “Janie” as she was affectionately called. On Monday, July 20, 2020, God sent his angels to Janie’s home to give her much needed rest.

Jimmie attended Newbold High School and graduated in 1965. She worked at Lincoln County Mental Health in Lincolnton, North Carolina. She later moved to Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and attended Lincoln University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she earned her Bachelors/Masters Degree in Psychology. She earned a degree at UNC Charlotte with a License in Special Education. Jimmie taught Exceptional Children at East Lincoln High School for several years.

Later she earned several degrees/certificates at Hood Theological Seminary, Salisbury, North Carolina in 2013 where she earned her pastoral degree. She went on to be a loving and devoted pastor of three churches in Asheboro, North Carolina (Mitchel, Cox Chapel, Saint Mark United Methodist). She loved her members and was a dedicated worker for Christ.

Jimmie joined Tucker’s Grove United Methodist Church as a child. She assisted with many church ministries. She deeply enjoyed reading books, writing poems, shopping, and traveling. She always provided words of wisdom and encouragement and prayed for anyone who crossed her path.

She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Nathaniel Surratt and father James Wesley Schenck and mother Lillie Mae Foster Schenck.

Precious memories of Pastor Jimmie Irene Schenck Surratt is survived by her three sons and three daughters: Rodney Debaris Wingate (Charlotte, NC), Tanya Yvette Wingate (Greensboro, NC) Ernest Wingate (Charlotte, NC) Karin Sarratt (Edgar Jr.), Thomas (Todd) Surratt Jr. (Grazia) Lakanya Roberts (Kevin) Bonus Children: Asia Wingate and Myranda (Johnny) Roseboro. Siblings: Elizabeth Gregory, Brenda Gregory (John Sr.) Donald Schenck (Rita) all of Iron Station, North Carolina. Two God Daughters: Nikki Gregory, Brittany Polk. Eight Grandchildren whom she cherished: Desmond Wingate, Bailey Wingate, Tyler Vinson, Nyah Wingate, Kamryn, Edgar III., Anita Surratt, Ayana Roberts. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
