Thousands of dollars per year in community development block grants fund the Roof Replacement Program.Sherry Julien is Program Manager for Housing Rehabilitation and Capital Improvements for Orange County. “The ability to partner with non-profit organizations to help us with this task means that we get to serve so many more clients than we would have on our own,” she said. Even though this program is free, there are certain eligibility requirements. You must own your own home, you must live in Orange County, and be current on your mortgage.Plus, there are income requirements, and certain specialized roof types may not not eligible.Adams says her new roof made a huge difference."My homeowners insurance was able to be replaced by a better company, my insurance costs went down tremendously,” Adams said. She says even her mortgage went down, too."Now I can live there comfortably, makes a big difference, much more than I ever thought I could at this point,” Adams said.
