Short Tutorial/FAQ – What Does Twitter's "Soft Block" Mean?

Download Graphics to View Question: I hear Twitter recently released a new "soft block" feature. What does it do?

Answer: The soft block feature allows you to remove someone from your Twitter followers list without blocking them entirely. The removed followers won't see your tweets on their timelines, although they will still be able to direct-message you. They won't be notified of the removal, but they'll also be able to follow you again unless you block them.

You may want to soft block if you don't want to do a full-on block but still want to create some space from another user. This new method from Twitter is a little easier than the previous one, which required you to block and unblock someone manually.

The ability to remove a follower is Twitter's latest feature to give users more control over their experience on the platform to help curb abuse and harassment. The company is also testing a new feature that will warn users when they're about to enter a potentially sensitive conversation.
